The Kingkiller Chronicle Series

By Patrick Rothfuss

Patrick Rothfuss’ best-known works are the novels in The Kingkiller Chronicle series, which follows the life of Kvothe, a legendary wizard and musician. The series is set in a detailed and richly imagined fantasy world, and features complex characters, intricate world-building, and beautiful prose.

In a previous post we discussed the first novel in the series, The Name of the Wind, which was published in 2007 to critical acclaim. The story follows Kvothe as he recounts his life story to a chronicler in a tavern, with themes of love, loss, and revenge woven throughout.

The second book in the series, The Wise Man’s Fear, was published in 2011, and continues Kvothe’s story as he travels and learns more about the magic and history of his world.

The novella The Slow Regard of Silent Things, published in 2014, is a side-story following one of the series’ supporting characters, Auri.

The highly anticipated third book in the series, The Doors of Stone, has no confirmed publication date, but Rothfuss has stated that he is actively working on it. The Kingkiller Chronicle series, in particular, has earned a devoted following (including us) and, in our opinion, cemented Rothfuss’ place as one of the most talented fantasy writers of our time.
